When God’s Plan Surpasses Yours

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Ephesians 3:20-21

     Exactly six months ago this week, Kevin and I were sitting in the Charlotte International Airport discussing a decision that was going to alter the course of our lives.  We had been invited go to the Women of Faith conference with other Proverbs 31 Donors, and staff.  I had been to NC many times for events with Proverbs 31, but this was the first time Kevin was able to go with me.  He knew that Charlotte had already claimed a special place in my heart, but this time- it snagged his as well. We’ve known for over 3 years that God was doing something big in our life… we just couldn’t narrow down what it was until that weekend.  Sitting in the airport that night we both knew that God was asking us to leave our life as we knew it and to trust Him with our future.  

None of it made sense…we had no reason, no job change, no family in that specific area.  Our children are at very difficult ages to move in school.  How do you ask a junior in high school to pack up everything she knows and go to an unfamiliar school for her senior year.  We also had one going into high school and one into 4th grade.  If there was no job, that would mean Kevin would have to consider leaving the safe, and comfortable job he had been at for 19 years.  I may have to go back to work full-time after being home with all 3 of my girls their entire lives.  We may have to sell everything we had to make ends meet.  Give up the life that we had built here in NJ… the extras that we didn’t think twice about buying, the comfort of being in control.  But God had been working on our hearts and we knew that if He was asking us to open up our hands and let go of all we had- he would provide.  It may not be in the way we wished he would… we may have to change how we lived, but we knew from past experience that the safest place to be is in the center of God’s will.  So, that night we decided to take that leap of faith and begin to figure out how to get our family to NC.  I bought this mug to use as a prayer prompt…every morning when I had my coffee with Jesus I handed our day over to him and asked him to help us trust that He had a plan for us.

I wish I could write all that has happened since that night back in November, and maybe I will someday.  Maybe I’ll find the time to sit and write the book that has been on my heart for months.  But today, I just want to share how good God is. He answered our prayers above and beyond our wildest dreams.  As of this morning, we are proud owners of a farm in Waxhaw, NC.  Kevin starts his new job (same company, same job) on June 1, and the girls and I will follow and join him when school is out.  This has been a lesson for us, for our children, and I pray that we can share with others how God has moved in our lives.  We didn’t know what the future held, but we did know who held our future. Obedience was key to Gods best.  I am so thankful we took that leap.  What is God asking you to let go of today? 

Lord,  You know so much more than we do.  If we could only see what you see, we wouldn’t hold so tightly to our comforts, our possessions, even our family.  You have plans for us, plans to prosper us and not to harm us,  plans to give us a hope and a future.  Please help us to give you what is all yours to begin with, and to trust that you will take care of us.  Amen
